The EV Revolution That’s Still Stuck in Traffic
Here’s My Take on Why 97.75% of America Isn’t Pushing the Start Button Just Yet
Everybody keeps saying the electric car revolution is here.
Cool. Except — 97.75% of the cars on U.S. roads still run on gas.
That’s not anti-EV. That’s just math.
In 2025, only about 2.25% of vehicles on the road are electric.
Yeah, EVs make up roughly 9.5% of new sales, but let’s not confuse a flashy launch with a cultural shift.
Cadillac wants you to think otherwise — just watch the Escalade IQ commercial below.
It’s all futuristic soundtracks and slow-motion confidence, promising that this isn’t the future… It’s today.
⚙️ The Real Paradigm Problem
Marketing can sell cars, but it can’t instantly reprogram culture.
Ask anyone who’s tried to quit coffee, religion, or cable TV — change is hard.
People don’t just swap habits; they swap identities.
Car culture isn’t built on lithium — it’s built on legacy.
And legacies don’t reboot overnight.
“Paradigm shifts sound fast in PowerPoints — but they take decades in driveways.
Especially when real car culture hasn’t been built on plug-and-play — it’s been built on build, break, and rebuild.”
— The Cool Car Guy
💸 The Economics Nobody Mentions
Here’s what the hype doesn’t tell you:
-
America sold ~16 million new cars last year — down from 18 million pre-COVID.
-
Meanwhile, 37–43 million used cars changed hands.
-
Average new-car price: $50 K+.
-
Average person: “I’ll keep mine, thanks.”
New cars get all the airtime because manufacturers buy the airtime.
But the real market? It’s the used-car lot, the fixer-upper, the “keep it rolling” crowd —
the people who make up three times the market size and nearly all the real culture.
🧠 The Human Factor
Culture isn’t software — you can’t patch human emotion.
People love the sound, smell, feel, and freedom of their current rides.
They’re not trading that in for something that might become a subscription.
EVs will grow — sure. But “revolution”?
Let’s call it what it is: a very long test drive.
💰 The Pocket Change
I’m not picking on Cadillac here. The Escalade IQ is a cool EV — honestly, it probably belongs over on CoolCarGuy.com for style points.
But this post is about reality checks.
So, brass tacks:
-
Base Escalade IQ Luxury 1 = $129,455 MSRP
-
Mid-trim Sport 1 = $141,780
-
Top-tier Sport 2 = $157,825
Meanwhile, I’m selling five listings for $49.95 on CarsFreak.com to dealers, shops, and consumers — and some people still have to think about it.
And yet Cadillac has sold 6,030 Escalade IQs out of 60,876 EVs in 2025 so far.
Add in 35,707 ICE Escalades for a total family of 41,737.
You read that right — nearly six times as many buyers still said, “Give me the gas one.”
At over $80 K per vehicle, most of those folks don’t even qualify for the $7,500 federal credit.
So yeah, I scratch my head and ask:
“How bad at math are these people? Are they still spending COVID-19 money?”
When you’re spending $50 K+ more to save $7,500 and a few oil changes, that’s not saving — that’s a lifestyle choice.

We’ll help them bump that view count by including it here — because that’s what real car culture does.
It’s the $150K SUV that thinks it’s saving the planet — in leather, of course
🔥 The Cool Car Guy Says
Forget revolutions — real car culture doesn’t get replaced.
It improves.
And the future of automotive isn’t about what powers it.
It’s about who still cares enough to drive.
